This Weekend

With so many events to choose from this time of year, it's hard to know where to spend your time.  Well, let me help you out a bit.

If you live in the Birmingham area and would like an hour or two of sheer interior design bliss, here's where you need to focus your time this weekend. . .

IPC Holiday House Tour
I am always amazed by this tour.  The ladies in charge of this tour do an amazing job selecting a wide variety of homes (in both style and size) all of which have be touched by the style mavens of our city.

The Home of Doug Davis
(interior designer for Tracery Interiors)

The Home of Betsy Brown

The Fulmer Residence

The Wagoner Home

Every detail is styled to perfection - just for you!!!
So, you know where I'll be this weekend!  Hope to see you there. M.

AND
If you are still wanting more, my dear little sugar plum fairies?

For this weekend only, your Holiday House ticket will also get you in to the Birmingham Home & Garden Inspiration Home.  For free!!

I attended a grand finale party at the inspiration house this past week, and I will tell you -  it did not disappoint.  Every single furnishing in the home has been so thoughtfully selected - lots of limed washed wood walls and ceilings, Circa lighting, and the most delicious fabrics.

Happy Weekend. M.

Design Perspective - Martha O'Hara

This is the beautiful work of Martha O'Hara and company.  While based in Minneapolis, Martha's firm is is a true mover and shaker in the design world with design projects coast to coast.  Here's a sampling of my favorites from their website.

Love to see this kind of talent and range in decorating styles.  Have a good one! M.

Design Perspective - Finnian's Moon

I'm over the moon with this portfolio.  Nancy Twomey really has a wonderful eye.  If you are looking for some inspiration for a nursery or child's bedroom, this should be your first stop!

When I look at these images, it almost makes me sad the baby years are done (key word - almost).

Love the fabric here and the wallpaper below the chair rail.

Since my daughter adores turquoise, I was immediately drawn to this space.  Nice to see a different take on a little girls room other than pink.

I've been super busy this week and my kiddos are out of school on Friday.  So, posting is going to be light this week!  But I have lots of great ideas to post about with the holidays coming up.  Can't wait to show you all the things I'm working on! M.

Design Perspective - Anna Evans Architect

I often get emails from friends who are smitten with interior design and architecture and want to bring certain people to my attention.  Honestly, I'm not sure I could post half of what I do without their tips and links to amazing properties.  This is one of those examples.  A great friend sent me the link to Anna Evans architecture firm here in Birmingham, Alabama.  Well, suffice it to say, she's uber talented.  Just look at her work, and I think you'll agree.

These tudor style homes are very popular here in Birmingham.
It really is one of the prettiest cities in the South.

But what I think makes Anna's work a bit different, in a very refreshing way, are the small modern details she has included just to punch it up.  Notice the super sleek modern glass railing she has included on this traditional style home.  So interesting.  Not to mention the red shutter in the picture above.

Also, I love the asian inspired gutter chains seen in the left of this picture.

Just look at that ceiling - elegant and rustic all at the same time.  I also love those doors with the 24 window panes 3/4 of a way down! Total statement.

LOVE the chandelier she's included over this kitchen island - trying to convince a client as we speak to do one large chandelier rather than pendants.  If this example does not persuade . . .

OK, so I'm clicking through the images and stop on this one.
First, Anna is just as talented with interior design as she is with architecture.  But, as I looked at the image, it hit me!!

I've been in this house. . . .

The homeowner and I hosted a baby shower in her home for a mutual friend last Spring!!

Afterwards, I tried to describe this house to several friends and words just could not express the feel of this home.  I even thought, it really needs to be photographed (too funny)! My favorite thing about this room are the valances on the window treatments.  I am all about a basic neutral panel as this will never become dated in a space, but how clever to use a current fabric for the valance.  Also, since it is only a valance, you will save a ton of money and get the look.  Love this idea.

So, now I have the images to share with them and you too!  Isn't it fresh and lovely?  The homeowners are young and have small children.  I think it is the perfect mix of adult traditional yet still fun and hip.

Love the gallery wall, pendant and the roman shade in linen on the french doors.

If you have time, do click over and see her portfolio.  It's quite the "pick me up" on a Tuesday!! M.

Design Perspective - Charlotte Moss

I know, I know, it's like stating the obvious.  I usually highlight interior designers who are not as main stream as Ms. Moss, but today, I have a good reason for featuring her.  First, she's coming to Birmingham, Alabama.  And second, I won a ticket to see her in person and hear her speak!!!  I'm never star struck over Hollywood Stars or professional athletes, but when it comes to talented interior designers, authors, and other artisans - I am smitten.  It's one thing to be able to pull pretty things together to create an amazing room.  But, when you are able to design and create the "pretty things" (i.e., fabrics and accessories) for the space, you are on a different level - Charlotte Moss is all that!

The good news is, if you would like to join me at this fabulous event, there are still a few tickets available.  Ms. Moss is speaking on Friday, October 7th at 10:30 AM.  I'm also told that she will have signed copies of her most recent book available for purchase, "Charlotte Moss Decorates."

This lecture series is in conjunction with our city's gorgeous Botanical Gardens annual fundraiser "Antiques & Garden Show."  The tickets are a mere $30 and, I was told, there is a high risk of sell out, so if you are considering it - Get your tickets now!!

In case, you on are on the fence about it.  Here is just a tiny sample of her stunning work.

So, I hope you will join me!  I am confident, this event will not disappoint.
Enjoy your weekend! See you Monday. M.

Design Perspective - Francie Hargrove

I was introduced to this very talented lady by another talent lady, Lisa Mende.  When my husband and I took our trip to Highlands this summer.  I contacted Lisa and asked if she would share her favorite haunts in the area with me.  She graciously agreed and Francie Hargrove's shop in Cashiers was on the top of her list!

Although I was not able to actual go inside her amazing shop.  (It was Sunday when we passed through and it was closed.)  I came home and found this eye candy on her website.  I then got busy with kids home from camp, back to school, design jobs, and yada yada yada (still love that episode) here we are at the beginning of Fall.

But now that Fall has arrived, it reminded me of Ms. Hargrove's style.  As you can see it has a very cozy "Fall like" feel much like the entire feeling of interior design in that area.  The Old Edward's Inn was very similar to these photos.
So, given all this, I thought it would be fun to do a new series called "Falling Into Fall." Where I pull together easy ways to add a shot of "Fall" to your life.  I think it's fun to pull in small doses of this style for the Fall and Winter months.  So, over the next couple of months, I'll show you some quick tricks to do just that.  I hope you like it.  In the meantime, here are a few more inspirational images from the talented Ms. Hargrove.

Happy Hump day. M.
